Helpful Information
Billing & Insurance
We are in-network with Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield. We are an out-of-network provider for all other insurance companies. We are happy to create a superbill for you to submit to your health insurance company to get reimbursed for speech therapy services. We also accept payment from Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts. Please reach out to rachel@nuturingcommunication.org if you have additional billing or insurance questions.
Referrals
You do not need a referral from a physician for private pay therapy services, however your health insurance may require a referral from a medical provider to receive speech therapy services. Please reach out to rachel@nurturingcommunication.org if you have questions about referrals.
FAQ
-
What ages do you work with?
We provide services for children of any age. If you have questions regarding whether or not you or your child are a good fit for our services, please reach out to rachel@nurturingcommunication.org!
-
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, we are an in-network provider for Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield members. We are considered an out-of-network provider for all other health insurance companies, however in many cases you can request your health insurance for reimbursement of speech therapy services. We are happy to provide you with the necessary documentation (i.e. a "superbill", therapy notes, and/or speech and language evaluation) to submit to your health insurance company. Nurturing Communication Speech Therapy is not responsible for any denied claims.
Please note that not all services are covered by health insurance, including: consultative phone calls to physicians or other professionals, teacher conferences, and/or attending IEP meetings. -
How will I be billed for services?
For Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield members, you are responsible for your co-payment/co-insurance, due at each scheduled visit. For all other clients, you are responsible to pay the full amount after each session. We use an online, HIPAA-compliant billing service that is integrated into our electronic health record (EHR). We accept all major credit cards, debit cards, or HSA/FSA cards. Please contact rachel@nurturingcommunication.org to discuss therapy rates, as these depend on individual therapy needs.
-
What is your attendance and cancellation policy?
Please notify us 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment if you need to cancel a session. You may be charged a fee for cancellations made in less than 24 hours or if you fail to show up for an appointment. Consistent attendance is crucial for therapeutic success, if you cancel or do not show up for 2 or more visits within a 30-day window, we reserve the right to cancel all pending appointments and no longer offer services to you as a client.
-
Is an evaluation required prior to services beginning?
We require a recent speech, language, or feeding evaluation (within the past year), IFSP, or IEP to initiate direct speech therapy services. If your child needs a speech and language evaluation, we offer comprehensive speech and language evaluations. We do not provide feeding evaluations at this time.
-
Can you work with my child if they get speech therapy services at school?
Yes, we can still work with your child even if they get speech therapy at school! We will collaborate with their school speech-language pathologist to support therapy goals across environments.
-
My child didn't qualify for EI/school-based services, can you still work with them?
Yes. It is possible that your child didn’t qualify for early intervention or school-based services, and they still may benefit from speech, language, or feeding support. Please contact us to see how we can support you!
-
How long are therapy sessions?
We offer 45 and 60-minute speech therapy sessions, however session length and frequency depend on individual needs. In the final 5-10 minutes of each session, we make time for parent coaching, home learning instruction, and documenting therapy notes and progress.
-
Can I be present for my loved one's session?
Yes! We will make a plan for your level of participation when we establish therapy services. We’ll reserve the last 5-10 minutes of each session to coach parents/caregivers on strategies to support the carryover of skills addressed in speech therapy. We strongly encourage parent participation with early communication and feeding therapies.
-
What is play-based therapy?
Children learn best during play! Play is not something that we can orchestrate for our children, play is something that is freely chosen, motivated by their own interests, has some sort of self-imposed “rules”, is creative, and happens when your child is well-regulated. Our therapy approach is to promote communication and model language in child-led play. During a play-based therapy session we: follow how your child wants to play, stay open and flexible to your child’s needs, keep demands low, all while targeting their speech therapy goals!
-
In what states do you provide services?
We provide direct speech therapy services in the state of Washington, where we are licensed.
